:: GENERAL TRIO INFORMATION
The TRIO programs are funded under the Higher Education Act of 1965 and currently
include seven different programs targeting educational levels from 6th grade through
a postbaccalaureate degree.
The federal TRIO programs were established by Congress to help low-income and
first-generation students prepare and succeed in programs of postsecondary education.
Student
Support Services (SSS) - assists participants to successfully complete
an undergraduate program of study through academic advisement, counseling, and
information on financial aid.
Talent Search (TS) - helps youth to complete secondary education
and encourages entry and re-entry into programs of postsecondary education.
Upward Bound (UB) - is an academically intensive program designed
to help students gain the skills and motivation necessary to complete secondary
and pursue postsecondary education.
Upward
Bound Math/Science (UBMS) - is similar to Upward Bound, but focuses on
careers and supplementary education in the mathematics and scientific fields.
Veterans
Upward Bound (VUB) - is designed to help Veterans enter or reenter secondary
and postsecondary education through advising, financial aid information and counseling.
Educational
Opportunity Centers (EOC) - counsel, assist and provide information regarding
financial aid and admissions to adults who wish to pursue further education.
Ronald
E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program (McNair) - prepares participants
for doctoral study through involvement in research, internships, and other scholarly
activities. |
